Parish Statement of Faith

Trinity Hillcrest Church is a Christ centered, Bible focused, mission minded fellowship. Specifically, we are...

Reformed. We believe that God is sovereign over the whole world -- from the stars in space to the sparrows in the trees to the hairs on our head. He is Lord over it all. That includes salvation -- in which God the Father sovereignly calls undeserving sinners to himself through Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. Christ's once-for-all atoning sacrifice frees us from the penalty of sin. When God calls us, he empowers us for gospel perseverance.

Evangelical. We believe that God speaks to us through his inerrant word -- the Bible. Through studying the Bible, we grow in Christ-like character and godly discernment. Unless we know Jesus personally, we don't really know him at all. We are committed to evangelism and global mission as our parish's top priority.

Protestant. We believe God's word is authoritative. It stands over all church traditions, no matter how old or sacrosanct they may be. We don't shy away from tough questions. We value the ministry of lay people. We love all Christians, but we reject any teaching -- such as transubstantiation, image worship, or clericalism -- that departs from the Bible and leads people away from the simplicity of the gospel.

Anglican. We are part of The Episcopal Church and the world-wide Anglican Communion. We are grounded in the Church of England. We are grateful for the godly heritage of past giants like Thomas Cranmer, Charles Simeon, J.C. Ryle, John Newton, and William Wilbeforce. We are also grateful for giants of today like J.I. Packer, John Stott, and Dick Lucas.

Orthodox Christian. We worship the Triune God -- the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit. We affirm the unique role of Christ as the one true Savior. We believe and cherish the creeds as statements of the Biblical faith. We reject all false teaching on sexual sin, moral relativism, and spiritual syncretism. We stand shoulder to shoulder with Christian people of any and every denomination who share this faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.
