TSA issues directive to boost railway cybersecurity

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently issued a directive to improve the cybersecurity of railroad operations in the US.

The importance of Railway Cybersecurity today and in 30 years

Siemens Mobility is building up cybersecurity services for rail customers by focusing on vulnerability, monitoring and security assessments, as well intrusion detection. In this video you will learn about the importance of cybersecurity in railway today and in 30 years.

▬ Siemens and Cybersecurity ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Siemens takes care of those invisible problems through cybersecurity. How does Siemens Mobility keep trains cybersecure overtime? Trains are mechanically maintained, but their software need to be looked after too. Indeed, if a cyberattack happens it can cause disruptions and great chaos on trains, and even in stations. Inevitably, this would mean tremendous costs attached.

▬ What do cybersecurity experts do? ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Siemens trains cybersecurity experts work on reinforcing trains’ cybersecurity systems to avoid these issues. They must have great awareness and know what needs to be done in case of an attack. Cybersecurity measures must remain over the life cycle of the train, and should become the default so that operators, customers, and passengers continue to feel safe and secure during their travels.

TSA Is Taking Steps to Address Some Pipeline Security Program Weaknesses

The U.S. depends on pipelines to deliver the natural gas, oil, and other hazardous liquids that power vehicles, heat homes, and more. But cyberattacks, such as an attack on Colonial Pipeline’s IT networks in May 2021, threaten pipeline security. On Tuesday, GAO’s Leslie Gordon testified that TSA—which is primarily responsible for pipeline security—is making new requirements for pipeline owners to improve their cybersecurity and prevent attacks. She also testified about previous recommendations that TSA has and has not fully addressed. Cybersecurity has been on our High Risk List since 1997.

TSA Cybersecurity Directive for Utilities and Pipelines Webinar

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is moving quickly to require utilities and pipelines to better prepare for future cyberattacks. Recent security directives require operators and utilities to:

1) Conduct criticality assessments of assets and operations to determine if they meet the TSA’s definition of Critical Energy Infrastructure and;

2) Implement measures to mitigate vulnerabilities to attacks.

The deadlines are coming up soon and you need to know what is required. In this webinar, we discuss in detail the specific requirements the TSA sets out.
